The process due to which an uncharged insulated metallic conductor gets electrically charged when held near a charged body is called ______.

A

The metal cube acquires net negative charge due to induction.

B

The metal cube acquires net positive charge due to induction

C

Interior of the metal cube remains electrically neutral but charges appear on surface.

D

Net charge on the metal cube remains zero.

The correct Answer is:
C, D

The metal cube is isolated, hence the net charge will remain zero because it is uncharged initially. The induction of charge on the metal, due to presence of charged object placed nearby, only redistributes the charge and net charge of the metal is not affected. Options (a) and (b) are not correct but option (d) is соrrect.
We know that in an electrostatic condition, the free electrons of the metal are distributed in such a manner that electric field intensity inside the metal is zero everywhere. Using Gauss.s law we can. easily explain that no net charge can stay in the volume of the metal in electrostatic condition and all unbalanced charge appears only on the outer surface of metal. The interior of metal remains electrically neutral in an electrostatic condition. Option (c) is correct.
