What puts the limit on maximum magnitude of charge stored in a capacitor?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

There is a dielectric medium in between the plates. Let V be the potential difference between the plates of a capacitor, then the electric field intensity developed is V/d, where d is the separation between the plates. V/d should be less than the dielectric strength of the given dielectric. Excessive electric field may cause dielectric breakdown.
