Two magnects of magnetic moments M and `Msqrt3` are joined to form a cross (+). The combination is suspended freely in a uniform magnetic field. In equilibrium position, the magnet of magnetic moment M makes an angle `theta` with the field. Determine `theta`.

Let the angle between the dipole moments of magnets X and Y with the magnetic field be `alpha` and `90^@ -alpha` , respectively. In the equilibrium position,
Torque experienced by X = Torque experienced by Y
` rArr MB sin alpha = sqrt(3)MB sin (90^@ - alpha)`
` rArr sin alpha = sqrt(3) cos alpha`
` rArr tan alpha = sqrt3`
` rArr alpha = 60^@`
