In the magnetic meridian of a certain place, the horizontal component of the earth's magnetic field is 0.26 G and the dip angle is `60^(@)`. What is the magnetic field of the earth at this location ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The horizontal component of Earth.s magnetic field is given by:
` B_H = B cos delta = B = (B_H)/(cos delta)`
here , `delta ` = angle of dip ` = 60^@`
`B_H = 0.26 G`
` rArr B = (0.26)/(cos 60^@) = (0.26)/(1//2) = 0.52 G`
