A dip circle is at right angles to the magnetic meridian. What will be the apparent dip ?

When the plane of the compass of dip circle is exactly perpendicular to the magnetic meridian for that point, then the horizontal component of the field cannot affect the needle so it gets aligned along vertical component. Hence the angle between planes of the compass and the magnetic meridians is `90^@` .
