Which is more suitable for making the core of a transformer steel or soft iron?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The hysteresis loop is thin for soft iron. Therefore, when it is subjected to a variable magnetic field, the heat developed is lesser in comparison to steel. The hysteresis loop for steel is thicker than soft iron. Hence, soft iron core is more suitable for transformer from the point of view of saving energy.
