If I is intensity of magnetization for the sample of magnetic material then we can write the following equation.
`(B)/(mu_0) = I + H`
We know that I = `chiH` , where `chi` is magnetic susceptibility of the material. Hence above equation can be rewritten as follows:
`(B)/(mu_0) = chi H + H`
` rArr 1 + chi = (B)/(mu_0 H)`
` rArr chi =(B)/(mu_0 H) - 1`
