Property of diamagnetism occurs in all materials. When diamagnetic material is kept in external magnetic field then a magnetic moment is induced in it along opposite direction of applied field. External field causes change in spin of paired electrons in such a manner that net magnetic moment is induced opposite to applied field. Intensity of magnetization of paramagnetic material is proportional to the magnetizing field intensity and proportionality constant is called magnetic susceptibility of the material.
