If a bar magnet is moved inside a toroid, will there be any induced emf? Give Reason.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When a bar magnet is moved inside a toroid, no measurable emf will be induced as there is no change in magnetic flux associated with any coil of the toroid.

(a) When a small magnet is moved towards a sole- noid, an emf is induced in it. However, if a magnet is moved inside the hole of a toroid, no emf is induced. Explain. (b) A wire is kept horizontal along North-South direction. It is allowed to fall freely. How much emf will be induced across the ends of the wire due to presence of Earth’s magnetic field.

Asseration: An emf is induced in a along solenoid by a bar magnet that moves while totally inside it along the solenoid axis. Reason: As the magnet moves inside the solenoid the flux through individual turns of the solenoid changes.

Assertion (A): Whenever the magnetic flux linked with a closed coil changes there will be an induced emf as well as an induced current. Reason (R ) : Accroding to Faraday, the induced emf is inversely proportional to the rate of change of magnetic flux linked with a coil.
