A wire in the form of a tightly would solenoid is connected to a `DC` source, and carries a current. If the coil is stretched so that there are gaps between successive elements of the spiral coil, then

When the coil is stretched, magnetic flux leaks through the air gaps, between successive elements of the spiral coil. According to Lenz.s law, emf induced in the coil must resist the decrease in flux. In order to resist this decrease in flux, more current is drawn from the DC source. So, the current through the solenoid will increase.
