A constant current is maintained in a resistive solenoid having iron rod as its core. Which of the following quantities will change when iron rod is removed from solenoid?

A

Rate of heat dissipation

B

Magnetic flux linked with the solenoid

C

Magnetic field inside solenoid

D

Self-inductance of the solenoid

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B, C, D

Iron core is magnetized when current passes through the solenoid. Hence magnetic field inside the solenoid is greatly affected by the presence of iron core. Due to effect on magnetic field, corresponding magnetic flux and self-inductance is also affected. In fact, magnetic flux, magnetic field and self-inductance decrease when iron rod is removed. Hence, options (b), (c) and (d) are correct.
