A metallic ring with a small cut is held horizontally and a magnet is allowed to fall vertically through the ring then the acceleration of the magnet is :

A

`lt g` when magnet is above ring and moving towards the ring

B

`gt 8` when magnet is above ring and moving towards the ring

C

`lt g` when magnet is below ring and moving away from the ring

D

`gt g` when magnet is below ring and moving away from the ring

The correct Answer is:
A, C

As per Lenz.s law current in the ring will always oppose the motion of magnet. When magnet approaches the ring from top then it repels it upwards so its acceleration becomes less thang and similarly when magnet crosses the ring and continue to move on the other side then also current in the ring opposes its motion by applying force upwards and hence acceleration of magnet becomes less than g. Hence, options (a) and (c) are correct.
