There are two sources of light, each emitting with a power of `100W`. One emits X-rays of wavelength `1nm` and the other visible light at `500nm`. Find the ratio of number of photons of X-rays to the photons of visible light of the given wavelength?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Given, power of light source , `P=100W`
Wavelength of X - rays form source `1, lamda _1 =1nm,`
Wavelength of visible light from source 2 , `lamda_2 =500 nm`
Let `N_1 andN_2` be the numebr of photons emitted per second of X - rays and visible light emitted from the two sources , then power
`P=N_1E_1=N_2E_2`
where `E_1 and E_2` are energies of the photon emitted form sources 1 and 2, respectively.
`implies P=N_1(hc)/lamda_1=N_2(hc)/lamda_2`
`impliesN_1/lamda_1=N_2/lamda_2`
`implies N_1/N_2=lamda_1/lamda_2=1/600`
