An electron and proton are possessing the same amount of kinetic energy. Which of the two have greater wavelength ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

We know K.E. `E_k=p^2//2m` and hence , `p=sqrt(2mE_k)` As `lamda=h//p=hsqrt(2mE_k), lamda` isinversely proportional to the square root of mass . As electron has less mass as compared to proton, electron will have more de Broglie wavelength.
