The following graph shows the variation ...

The following graph shows the variation of stopping potential with frequency for three different metals a, b and c . A light wave having wavelength 550 nm is falling on th metal surface a,b,c one by one. Which metal plate with generate photoelectric current?

A

plates a , b, and c

B

plate a only

C

plates b and c

D

none of a, b and c

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

As the slope is same for all metals a, b. and c, from the graph , we can write
`phi_a/e=2V " "phi_b/e=2.3V," "phi_e/e=2.5V`
`phi_a=2.0eV " "phi_b=2.3eV, " "phi_e=2.5eV`
Energy which fall on metals surface is `E=(1240)/550 = 2.25 eV`
As incident energy is greater than the work function of metal a only `(E gt phi_a)` . So photoelectric current will be generated in plate a.
