A parallel beam of negatively charged particles is illuminated normally on a narrow slit, as shown in the figure below . The angular width of central maximum will increase when

A

velocity of charged particle is decreased

B

kinetic energy is decreased

C

velocity of charged particle is increased.

D

momentum of charged particle is increased.

The correct Answer is:
A, B

Angular width `[tantheta=y/D=(mlamdaD)/(aD) =(mlamda)/a]`
For small angle,
`2 theta = (2mlamda)/a`
`implies 2 theta prop lamda`
From de Broglie wavelength
`lamda=h/(mv)`
On decreasing speed , we can see that angular width of central maximum will increase . On decreasing kinetic energy, speed of particles will also decrease , hence angular width will increase . Both (a)and (b) are correct .
