Find the number of fissions required to ...

Find the number of fissions required to produce a power of 2,000 W, if 200 MeV of energy is produced in the fission of single uranium nucleus.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let n be the number of fissions required.
Energy released per fission = 200 MeV
Total energy released for n fissions
`=200 xx 1.6 xx 10^(-13) xx nJ`………(i)
Energy required per sec = Pt
`=2,000 xx 1 s = 2,000 J`…….(ii)
From (i) and (ii)
`200 xx 1.6 xx 10^(-12) xx n =2,000`
`=n=(2,000)/(200 xx 1.6 xx 10^(-13)) = 6.25 xx 10^(13)`
