Predict if the solutions of the following salts are neutral, acidic or basic: `NaCl, KBr, NaCN, NH_(4)NO_(3), NaNO_(2)` and `KF`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Acidic, basic or neutral character of the salt can be decided on the basis whether they are salts of strong or weak acids or bases.
(i) NaCN, `NaNO_2`, KF are basic because they are the salts of strong base and weak acids.
(ii) `NH_4NO_3` is acidic because it is a salt of strong acid and weak base.
(iii) NaCl, KBr are neutral because they are salts of strong acids and strong bases.
