If one root of the equation, `x^(2) - 11x + (p-3) = 0` is 3, then find the value of p and also its other root.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Given that 3 is one of the roots of the equation `x^(2) - 11x + p - 3 = 0`
`rArr x = 3` satifies the given equation .
`rArr (3)^(2) - 11(3) + p - 3 = 0`
`rArr p = 33 +3 - 9`
`rArr p = 27`.
`:.` The value of p is 27.
Since the sum of the roots of the equation is 11 and one of the roots is 3, the other root of the equation of 8.
