Frog is a poikilothermal or cold blooded animal. Its body temperature varies with the environmental temperature so can not tolerate very low winter and very high summer temperatures. It defends by:
(i) Hibernation (Winter sleep) i.e. goes deep in moist area and consumes less energy by lowering its metabolic rate. So it is period of dormancy in winter
(ii) Aestivation (Summer sleep) i.e. hides under some shaded area temporarily or goes deep in mud for long period. So it is period of dormancy in summer.
(iii) Camouflaging (or Protective colouration or mimicry) i.e. changes body colour to blend with the environment so becomes unnoticeable.
