Visible light of variable wavelength is ...

Visible light of variable wavelength is incident normally on a thin sheet of plastic in air. The reflected light has a minima only for `lamba=512` nm and `lambda=640` nm in the visible spectrem. What is the minimum thickness (in mum) of the film `(mu=1.28)` ?

Reflected ray from upper surface would sgift by `lamda//2` only while reflected from lower surface would not have any shift.
`2mut=n_(1)lamda_(1)=n_(2)lamda_(2)rArr(n_(1)=n_(2)+1)`
as there is no minimum in between these two wavelengths
`(n+1)(512)=(n)(640)`
`n_(2)(640-512)=512`
`n_(2)=4`
`"So "2xx1.28t=(4)(640)`
`t=(4xx640)/(2xx1.28)=1000nm=1mum" "]`

White light is incident on a soap film of mu = 4//3 at an angle of 45^@ . On examining the transmitted light with a spectrometer, a bright band of wavelength 5400 Å is found. What will be the minimum thickness of the soap film?

A thin film having refractive index mu" = 1.5" has air on both sides. It is illuminated by white light falling normally on it. Analysis of the reflected light shows that the wavelengths 450 nm and 540 nm are the only missing wavelengths in the visible portion of the spectrum. Assume that visible range is 400 nm to 780 nm. White light incident perpendicular on a soap film gets reflected . It has an interference maximum at 5800 Å and a minimum at 4200 Å in a visible spectrum. If there is no minimum in between the two bands, find the thickness of the soap film. Take refractive index of film = 4//3 .
