Explain Einstein’s equation for photoelectric emission.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Einstein.s photoelectric equation is:
`hv = W_(0) +1/2 mv^(2)`
where v is the incident frequency, `W_(0)` the work function , m, the mass of electron and v the velocity of fastest electron emitted.
If `v_(0)` is the threshold frequency i.e. the minimum frequency with which photoelectric emission takes place then:
`hv_(0) =W_(0) +1/2m_(0)^(2) =W_(0)`
`therefore hv = hv_(0) +1/2mv^(2)`
or `h(v-v_(0)) =1/2mv^(2)`.
