A small object is placed at the centre of the bottom of a cylindrical vessel of radius 3 cm and height 4 cm filled completely with water. Consider the ray leaving the vessel through a corner. Suppose this ray and the ray along the axis of the vessel are used to trace the image. Find the apparent depth of the image and the ratio of real depth to the apparent depth under the assumptions taken. Refractive index -of water = 1-33.

A spark plug in a bike or a car is used to ignite the air - fuel mixture in the engine. It consists of two electrodes separated by a gap of around 0.6 mm gap as shown in the figure. To create the spark an electric field of magnitude 3xx10^(6)Vm^(-1) is required. (a) What potential difference must be applied to produce the spark ? ( b) If the gap is increased , does the potential defference increase decrease or remains the same the same ? ( c) find the potential difference if the gap is 1 mm .

For scattering by an 'inverse square field' (such as that produced by a charged nucleus in Rutherford's model) the relation between impact parameter b and the scattering angle theta is given by b (Ze^2 cot (theta/2))/(4 pi epsi_0 ((mv^2)/(2))) a. What is the scattering angle for b =0? b. For a given impact parameter h, does the angle of deflection increase or decrease with increasing energy? c .What is the impact parameter at which the scattering angle is 90^@ for Z = 79 and initial energy of 10 MeV? d. Why is it that the mass of the nucleus does not enter the formula above but the charge does? e. For a given energy of the projectile, does the scattering angle increase or decrease with decrease in impact parameter?

Obtain the equation for apparent depth.

A vessel contains water up to a height of 20 cm and above it an oil up to another 20 cm. The refractive indices of the water and the oil are 1.33 and 1.30 respectively. Find the apparent depth of the vessel when viewed from above.
