Amniocentesis is prenatal diagnostic technique used to determine chromosome abnormalities of the foetus. If the embryo contains any hereditary defects, the parents may be advised for abortion. But now a days this technique is misued for determining the foetal sex. So statutory ban on amniocentesis is necessary. Otherwise it will lead to female foeticides and sexual imbalance.
