During the eukaryotic transcription, the genetic information encoded in the DNA will be transferred to m-RNA. The m-RNA thus formed will be processed and utilized to synthesize a protein.
a. Both the DNA strands are not copied during transcription. Why?
b. What do template and coding DNA strands represent?
c. What will be the result, if RNA is not spliced before translation?

a. If two strands are copied, the sequence of amino acid in the protein would be different. Hence one segment of the DNA would be coding for two different proteins and would complicate the genetic transfer.
b. The strand with the polarity 3. `to` 5. is called template strand and the other with 5. `to` 3. polarity does not code for anything is called coding strand.
c. Splicing helps to remove the non-coding sequences (introns). If splicing is not done, the result would be no protein production.
