Explain why meiosis and gametogenesis are always interlinked?

Gametogenesis refers to the process of formation of gametes. Ga-metes are haploid cells. If the organism is diploid it undergoes meiotic division to produce haploid gamete. So gametogenesis and meiosis are always interlinked.
