Write a note on momentum....

Write a note on momentum.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Momentum of a particle is defined as product of mass with velocity. It is denoted as .p. Momentum is also a vector quantity
`vecp=mvecv`
The direction of momentum is also in the direction of velocity, and the magnitude of momentum is equal to product of mass and speed of the particle.
p=mv
In component form the momentum can be written as
`p_(x)hati+p_(y)hatj+p_(z)hatk=mv_(x)hati+mv_(y)hatj+mv_(z)hatk`
Here `p_(x)=x` component of momentum and is equal to `mv_(x)`.
`p_(y)=y` ntum and is equal to `mv_(y)`
`p_(z)=z` component of momentum and is equal to `mv_(z)`
