Find out the value of g in your school laboratory?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Assume our school is located in Chennai city . The latitude of Chennai is approximately 13 degree .
Period of revolution (T) = 1 day = 24 hours = 86400 sec
Radius of the earth (R ) =` 6400 xx10^(3) m `
and `13^(@) = 0.2268 `rad
The general equation of variation of .g. in latitude is g. ` = g - omega ^(2)R cos^(2) lambda `
Here , `omega^(2)R = ((2pi)/T)^(2) xx R = ((2xx3.14)/86400)^(2) xx (6400 xx10^(3))`
`omega^(2) R = 3.4 xx10^(-2) ms^(-2)`
`g. = 9.8 - (3.4 xx10^(-2)) xx (cos 0.2268 )^(2) = 9.8 - (0.034 xx1)`
`g . = 9.766 "ms"^(-2)`
