Estimate the mass of air in your class room at NTP. Here NTP implies normal temperature (room temperature) and 1 atmospheric pressure.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The average size of a class is 6 m length, 5 m breadth and 4 m height. The volume of the room `V= 6xx5xx4 = 120 m^(3)`. We can determine the number of mole. At room temperature 300K, the volume of a gas occupicd by any gas is equal to 24.6 L. The number of mole
`mu=(120m^(3))/(24.6xx10^(-3)m^(3))~~"4878 mol"`
Air is the mixture of about `20%` oxygen, `79%` nitrogen and remaining one percent are argon, hydrogen, helium and xenon. The molar mass mass of air is `"29 g mol"^(-1)`. So the total mass of air in the room `m=4878xx29xx10^(-3)=141.4kg`

Estimate the total number of molecules inclusive of oxygen, nitrogen, water vapour and other constituents in a room of capacity 30m^(3) at a temperature of 30^(@)C and 1 atmosphere pressure.

Show that the internal energy of the air (treated as an ideal gas) contained in a room remains constant as the temperature changes between day and night. Assume that the atmospheric pressure around remains constant and the air in the room maintains this pressure by communicating with the surrounding through the windows, doors, etc.

Estimate the average energy of a helium atom at (i) room temperature (27^(@)C) (ii) the temperature on the surface of the sun (6000K) and (iii) the temperature of 10^(7) K. (k_(B)1.38xx10^(-23)JK^(-1))

Calculate the volume of one mole of any gas at STP and at room temperature (300K) with the same pressure 1 atm.

When a person breaths, his lungs can hold up to 5.5 Litre of air at body temperature 37^(@)C and atmospheric pressure ("1 atm = 101 kPa") . This Air contains 21% oxygen. Calculate the number of oxygen molecules in the lungs.
