In an adiabatic expansion of the air ...

In an adiabatic expansion of the air the volume is increased by `4%` what is pereentage change in pressure ? (For air y = 1.4)

Text Solution

From equation for adiabatic process,
`PV^(gamma)="constant"`
Using differentiation, we get
`Pgamma V^(gamma-1)dV+dP.V^(gamma)=0`
`(dP)/(P)=-gamma(dV)/(V )`
Volume .V. is increased. By `4%` and `gamma=1.4`
`(dP)/(P)xx100=-gamma((dV)/(V)xx100)=-1.4xx4=-5.6`
Pressure is decreased. by `5.6%`.
