Define root mean square speed (v(rms)). ...

Define root mean square speed `(v_(rms))`. Write down its equations.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Root mean square speed is defined as the square root of the mean of the square of speeds of all molecules. It is denoted by `v_(rms)=sqrt(barv^(2))` .
Mean square speed `barv^(2)=(3kT)/(m)`
`v_(rms)=sqrt((3kT)/(m))=1.73 sqrt((kT)/(m))`
