Static Friction: Static friction is the force which opposes the initiation of motion of an object on the surface. The magnitude of static frictional force `f_(s)` lies between
`0lef_(s)mu_(s)N` ,
where, `mu` — coefficient of static friction
N - Normal force
then, equation shows that `f_(s)` can take any value from 0 & `mu_(s)N`. If object is at rest, when no external force acts on it then `f_(s)` = 0. If object is at rest, also external force acts on it, then `f_(s) = F_("ext")`
But still the static frictions `f_(s)` is less than `mu_(s)N` when object begins to slide, the static friction `(f_(s))` acting on the object attains maximum.
