What are fossil fuels? How are they formed?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The fossil fuels are petroleum, coal and natural gas. Due to the anaerobic decomposition of buried dead organisms, by natural process over millions of years, energy rich substances are formed. As the accumulating sediment layers produce heat and pressure, the remains of the organisms are gradually transformed into hydrocarbons.
