Why should gametes be produced by meiosis during sexual reproduction?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Meiosis is important as it produces gametes i.e, male or female germ cells. During meiosis a germ cell or gamete divides to make four new sex cells As a result of fertilization two gamates join together to form an egg or zygote. Therefore only if gamates are produced, fertilization can take place.
