Calculate the angle between two factors ...

Calculate the angle between two factors `vecX and vecY` if the resultant of vectors is given by `R^(2)=X^(2)+Y^(2)`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let `theta` the angle between the two vectors, `vecX and vecY`
Then, `R^(2)=x^(2)+Y^(2)+2XY cos theta`
But, `R^(2)=X^(2)+Y^(2)`
`therefore X^(2)+Y^(2)=X^(2)+Y^(2)+2XY cos theta `
`rArr 2XY cos theta =0`
`rArr 2 XY cos theta =0`
or `cos theta =0` As `vecXne 0, vecYne 0, therefore cos theta =0`
`rArr theta =90^(2)`
