Calculate
(a) mass of 2.6 gram molecule of `SO_2`.
(b) number of gram molecules of water in a beaker containing 576 g of water.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) Molecular mass of `SO_(2)` = Atomic mass of S +2 `xx 16 = 64`
1 gram molecule of `SO_(2) =64`g
2.6 gram molecule of `SO_(2) = 64 xx 2.6 = 166.4`g
(ii) Molecular mass of `H_(2)O = 2 xx 1 + 16 =18`
`therefore 18 g` of water = 1 gram molecule.
No. of gram molecule in 576 g `=1/18 xx 576 = 32`
