The density of 3 molal solution of NaOH ...

The density of 3 molal solution of NaOH is 1.110g `mL^(-1)`. Calculate the molarity of the solution.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

3 molal solution of NaOH means that 3 mol of NaOH are dissolved in 1000 g of solvent.
Mass of solute `=3 xx 40 = 120g`
`therefore` Mass of solution = Mass of Solvent + Mass of solute
=1000g + 120 g
= 1120 g
Dentisy of solution = `1.110 g mL^(-1)`
Volume of solution `=1120/(1.110) mL`
=1009.00 mL
Molarity `=("Moles of solute")/("Vol. of solution in mL") xx 1000`
`=3/1009 xx 1000 = 2.97` M
