How are `d^(xy)` and `d_(x^(2)-y^(2))` orbitals related to each other ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The `d_(xy)` orbital is exactly like `d_(x^2 - y^2)` orbital except that its lobes are at an angle of `45^@` to the lobes of `d_(x^2 - y^2)` orbital.
