How does `H_(2)O_(2)` behave as a bleaching agent?

Hydrogen peroxide acts as a bleaching agent due to the release of nascent oxygen :
`H_2 O_2 to H_2 O + O`
The nascent oxygen combines with colouring matter which in turn gets oxidised. Thus , the bleaching action of `H_2 O_2` is due to the oxidation of colouring matter by nascent oxygen. It is used for bleaching materials like ivory, silk , wool , feathers , etc.
