Out of o- and p-dibromobenzene which one has higher melting point and why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

p-dichlorobenzene. The p-isomer is more symmetrical and therefore, fits better into its crystal lattice. As a result the intermolecular forces are larger than the corresponding o isomers. Hence, p-isomer has higher melting point.
