DNA polymerase synthesizes a new strand in presence of ATP in a continuous piece in 5’ `to` 3’ direction and is called leading or continuous strand. On the other strand of DNA, the enzyme forms DNA fragments insmall piecesin 5’ `to` 3’ direction initiating from RNA primer. These small fragments are called Okazaki fragments
