List two essential roles of ribosome during translation.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Charged tRNA shifts to ribosome for initiation of polypeptide chain. Ribosome is the site where protein systhesis occurs. Ribosome also act as a catalyst (23S RNA in bacteria with enzyme ribozyme) for the formation of peptide bond. During elongation of polypeptide chain, new peptide bond is formed between the amino acides whose tRNAs are located on A and P sites of ribosomes.
