The molar masses of oxygen and sulphur d...

The molar masses of oxygen and sulphur dioxide are 32 and 64 respectively. If 1 L of oxygen at `25^@C` and 750 mm Hg pressure contains N molecules, then the number of molecules in 2 L sulphur dioxide under the same conditions of temperature and pressure is :

A

N/2

B

3N/2

C

2N

D

6N

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
C

According to avogardo hypothesis , equal volumes of all gases under similar conditions of temperature and pressure contain equal number of molecules . Therefore ,if 1L of `O_2` (or `SO_2` ) contains N molecules at `25^@C` and 750 mm Hg pressure , then 2L of `O_2` (or `SO_2` ) contain 2N molecules at same conditions of temperature and pressure .
