Text Solution

Transport of water and minerals
Plants require water for making food by photosynthesis and also need minerals for various metabolism and growth regulatory processes.
Water and minerals absorbed by roots are transported through tracheids and vessels. Xylem tracheids and vessels are thick walled and nonliving. Water absorption is of two types - passive absorption in which no energy is utilized and active absorption in which energy is utilized.
