Why is abscisic acid also known as stress hormone ?

In plants facing stresses, ABA leads to loss of turgor and closure of stomata thereby increasing the tolerance power of plants. Its production is stimulated by drought, water logging and other adverse conditions. Hence it is also called stress hormone.
