The role of ethylene and abscissic acid is both positive and negative justify the statement

Both the hormones have negative and positive effects. They promote and inhibit certain processes. Ethylene promotes ripening of fruits. It promotes transverse growth but inhibits longitudinal growth. ABA promotes hardiness to cold and infections but inbibits growth of auxins. It brings out closure of stomata.
