It is desired to increase the volume of `800 cm^(3)` of a gas by 20% keeping the pressure constant. To what temperature should the gas be heated, if the initial temperature is `22^(@)C`?

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
354 K

`V_(1)=800mL, T_(1)=273+22=295K`
`"Increase in volume"=(800xx20)/(100)="160 mL"`
`therefore" "V_(2)=800+160=960mL, T_(2)=?`
Since pressure remains constant, therefore, by applying Charles. law,
`T_(2)=(V_(2)T_(1))/(V_(1))=((960 mL)xx(295K))/(800 mL)=354K`
`"or "T_(2)=354-273=81^(@)C`.
