An unsymmeterical double convex thin len...

An unsymmeterical double convex thin lens forms the image of a point object on its axis. Will the position of the image change if the lens is reversed ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

From the lens maker.s formula
`(1)/(f)=(mu-1)((1)/(R_(1))-(1)/(R_(2)))`
On reversing the lens, the values of `R_(1)` and `R_(2)` also get reversed along with their signs. Hence focal length remains same.
Since f remains same, therefore, u and v do not change.
