Figure shows figure three transparent medi of refractive indices `mu_1, mu_2 and mu_3`. A point object O is placed in the medium `mu_2`. If the entire medium on the right of the spherical surface has refractive index `mu_1`, the image forms at O. If this entire medium has refractive index `mu_2` the image form at O''. In the situation shown

A

Between P and Q

B

Between centre of curved surface and P

C

To the right of Q

D

Two images will be formed, one at P and other at Q.

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
D

Light rays travelling above the principal axis will pass through medium of refractive index `mu_(2)` and will form image at P and similarly light rays travelling below the principal axis will pass through medium of refractive index `mu_(3)` and will form image at Q. Hence two images are formed one at P and the other at Q. Thus option (d) is correct.
