Butan-1-ol has higher boiling point than diethyl ether. Assign reason.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Butane -I-l has inermolecular hydrogen bonding between their molecules. Thefefore. It exist as associated molecules and large amount of energy is required to break these bonds and hence its boiling is hight but. Diethyl ether does not show any assocation by intermolecular hydrogen bonding. Hence its boiling point in law.
